I am about to spell out
why my parents have the best dog in the world. But, firstly, here's some
background information about our previous dog owning.
When I was a child, up
until I was 14, we had a female Caucasian Shepard Dog, named Vanda, and I still
love her. She might have seemed scary to others, but for me she was a teddy
bear that I could do with whatever I wanted to. I mean, my sister and I used to
scrub snow into her fur, we were really young and we have pictures. She was so
calm and loving towards our whole family. And also, extremely smart. She also
gave us something priceless, our second dog.
From her last litter, we
kept one of the puppies, named her Bella and just watched as she grew up to be
the weirdest dog ever. She used to climb wood piles and lower trees. Not even
joking. We took her to the forest or the field and she never got lost. She was
just always by our side, making sure we were still there and alive. When there
was a threat to our safety, she would eliminate it and go on protecting us. She
was a real sweetheart, our kittens used her as an amusement park, she never
hurt any of them. Even though she clearly was not happy about it.
While Vanda was getting
older and Bella was becoming a reasonable adult, my mom got a third dog.
Something to pet and take cute pictures of. She got us a Chow Chow. Melgi was
the meanest dog I've ever had. She was loyal as a crazy ex, who was jealous
over everyone. She bit our neighbours if they even dared to say hello to my
mom. And she never listened to anyone, she did as she pleased. I'm kind of
surprised I even liked her, she seems like a terrible dog. But I loved her very
much, even if I disliked her shitty attitude.
And this brings us to
Ingel (means Angel in Estonian). We call her Inka, because once you have a
white dog, calling it angel seems a bit much. What would our neighbours think?
That we all read the bible and were expecting a miracle of some sort? Nope, a
nickname was decided instantly to be her identifier.
As my parents were
deciding what breed they wanted (all of our other dogs had passed away by that
time), I was the one who had to do research online. Once they came up with this
breed (Berger Blanc Suisse), I told them that she would need schooling and something to do. This
breed is highly intelligent and requires a job of some sort. I am proud to say
that they listened to me and Inka is our first dog ever to be schooled
professionally. And she's also a show dog with both Estonian and Latvian Junior
titles. And my mom does tracking competitions with her. She's not terrible at
it, her nose is super effective and she's as fast as the wind.
That's why she's so
amazing. She listens to commands rather amazingly well. She could be in the
middle of a rumble with the neighbour's dogs, but once you call her, she drops
everything and comes by your side. She needs to see what you are doing at all
cost. It's sometimes annoying, but mostly I think it's cute how she cares about
the family.
She's going to be two
years old in September, but I can already see some improvements in her excited
nature. She's getting the hang of not jumping on me when I get home. Thank gods
for that. She's usually dirty, because she needs to explore everything. Her cheerful and at times insane behaviour makes her, actually, extremely dear to me. I don't like people or animals or even things that are 100% perfect. There shouldn't be such things. Yes, I am at times a bit of a perfectionist, but people and animals are not controllable as my bookshelf.
Inka is a Berger Blanc Suisse (or White Swiss Shepherd), which means she is completely white and very much protective of her herd. I am honoured to be a part of this herd. She is energetic, as I mentioned, to a point when tiring her out is quite a chore. Sometimes she just doesn't know when to stop being herself and give you space. And she loves little kids, as they like to run around with her. Any kind of attention (positive kind of course), she craves. And usually also receives. I think she's the perfect dog to fill the empty nest my sister and I left for our parents. She keeps them quite busy and that's a good thing.
As she is still so young, I have no idea if I would say all these nice things about her in the future or maybe there would be more good things to share. At the moment, the only thing about her that I kind of dislike, is her constant need to chase cats. We have two and I wish they could co-exist peacefully. She also seems to be obsessed with chasing off ducks. And if you know me a little bit better than most, then you might remember that I had a duckling one summer as a pet (it was more like my child actually). I am in love with water birds in general, but ducks are the cutest thing in my opinion. I wish she'd leave them be.
I guess this post is a bit odd, as to why would you or anyone else even care about my family's dog history. But let me have this. Last two posts were about history and one of them was quite "strong". Next week I will try and post about Metalshow, which I am attending this weekend. And after that, I have no idea. At the moment you are still reading posts scheduled a month ahead of time. Some day soon I will run out of ideas completely. Oh, and I just wanted to create this Aww! effect there with pictures of my adorable pets. Be envious of my dog! Muhahaa!
Let's stop the madness here and continue our discussion next time, about how insane I can be.
All my love,
Regina.
